Valerie Kretchmer, a community advocate, business professional, and longtime Pleasant Prairie resident, has announced her candidacy for the Wisconsin State Assembly in District 65, representing parts of Kenosha and Pleasant Prairie. Kretchmer is running to bring principled, common-sense leadership and greater accountability to Madison.
“I am proud to call Wisconsin home and am committed to serving the people of our state,” said Kretchmer. “By working together, we can strengthen our communities, ensure responsible government, and build a brighter future for Wisconsin families. Fiscal responsibility, strong essential services, and government accountability are key to keeping our state moving forward.”
VALERIE KRETCHMER FOR DISTRICT 65
Kretchmer’s background reflects a lifelong commitment to hard work, service, and fiscal responsibility. Raised with strong values shaped by her experience working on a farm, she later built a career in business, developing expertise in budgeting, procurement, and operational efficiency.
She has been an active member of the Pleasant Prairie Parks Commission, where she has advocated for inclusive and accessible community spaces. Kretchmer also worked in partnership with local officials to help ensure playground guidelines align with federal ADA standards and contributed to the accessible design of Prairie Springs Park.
As a recent candidate for the Kenosha Unified School District Board, Kretchmer focused on increasing transparency, strengthening communication with families, improving student and staff safety, and ensuring legal compliance for students with disabilities. Her advocacy emphasized responsible spending and prioritizing resources to directly benefit students.
2025 KUSD School Board Forum: Valerie Kretchmer
Last year, Valerie Kretchmer ran for Kenosha Unified School Board after seeing test scores falling for students, teachers not receiving the resources they need to teach, a bloated administration with a lack of transparency and accountability, and students with individualized education plans and disabilities not receiving the services they be receiving as per federal law.
